WI’s Chelminiak, Peterson out-duel field to grab first place on Kinkaid Lake in Central Regional

CARBONDALE, Mo. – Wisconsin state champions Kyler Chelminiak and Nicholas Peterson of Whitnall High School won the High School Central Regional tournament held on Kinkaid Lake Saturday. The Whitnall High School team recorded three bass weighing 9 pounds, 9 ounces to beat the Indiana state championship team by 5 pounds, 12 ounces.

Chelminiak said the team used Mann’s Flippin’ Craw to catch their fish Saturday.

“I used one bait and one rod, actually it was a flipping rod, to catch all my fish,” Chelminiak said. “It was slow all day long. We only got one bite every two hours.”

“We were flipping in heavy milfoil all day, Peterson added. “We were just lucky to get the big bites that we got.” Continue reading

Beam & Watson Named 2011 Oklahoma High School Fishing State Champions

Ponca City, Oct. 2, 2011.  The inaugural Student Angler Federation (SAF) Oklahoma High School Fishing Championship was held Saturday, October 1, 2011 on Sooner Lake located in North Central Oklahoma.  Fishing was extremely tough with a clear blue sky and essentially no wind.  The team of Jenna Beam, the Oklahoma Bass Federation Junior 15- 18 State Champion, and partner Gage Watson of the Ponca City Wildcat Anglers outdistanced Dalton Lee and Brady Burr by 1 pound and 12 ounces to claim the State Championship title.  Dalton and Brady were also members of the Po High Anglers.  Third place went to team Jacob Lewis and Alex Meadows of the Ponca City High School Club.  Jenna and Gage will represent Oklahoma at the SFA Regional Championship on Sommerville Lake located near College Station, TX.  The SAF regional tournament will be held in conjuction with the Collegiate Regional tournament.  The Bass Federation (TBF) in partnership with the FLW Outdoors are hosting the State, Regional, and National Trails across the nation. Lopez & Trinh Named 2011 California High School Fishing Champs

Oct. 2, 2011; Delta – The California Bass Federation and The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW Outdoors, hosted the inaugural Student Angler Federation California High School Fishing State Championship, Sunday October 2nd at Russo’s Marina on the CA Delta in Bethel Island, CA. The state championship was a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Teams from all over the state of California came to be a part of the first ever California High School Fishing State Championship.

Anthony Lopez and Nicholas Trinh of Santa Teresa High School Saints were victorious. They weighed in a 5 bass limit that weighed 9.93 lbs, which crowned them as the 2011 California High School Fishing State Champs. The state champions will advance to an FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing Regional Championship held in conjunction with a National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional Championship hosted on a college campus this fall. They will receive travel allowances to help offset expenses. The winners from each regional will advance to the FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held on a college campus in conjunction with the National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship in the Spring of 2012. National Champions will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to use at the university of their choice. Continue reading
