Mt Ida pair win HS National Championship

Hunter Davis and Tyler Allen brand won the first year of a new format in the High School National Championship. New for 2017 the HS National Championship is now being held in conjunction with and concurrent with the largest most diverse high school championship event in the nation, the 2017 High School Fishing World Finals.

After three day combined weights were tallied the Arkansas pair caught 53-06 out of Pickwick lake and topped the day 2 leaders of Cal Culpepper and Mason Wadell who were representing Georgia’s Harris county High School.

While a team that is always near the top Jake Kimbrough and Hunter Nanney from North Mississippi Student Anglers finished third with 50-11ounces.

For their win David and Tyler earned national championship trophies and titles as well as each angler will receive  a $5000 scholarship to the school of choice from FLW.  The second place team of Cullpepper and Wadell also will receive a $5000 scholarship each to the school of their choice from TBF.

The top 10 finalists from the national Championship all advanced to Saturdays final round of the High School Fishing World Finals to compete for their share of the record payout of over 170,000 in scholarships and prizes.  For more details on the wining pattern check out our partners page at FLW fishing here.

HUFF AND WILKENS TAKE WASHINGTON STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES

Five junior and 26 high school anglers converged on Moses Lake to compete for bragging rights as the 2017 Washington High School Fishing State Champions and the TBF Junior State Champions were crowned. Both teams have advanced to National Championships to be held this summer.  The High School State Champions advance to the 2017 National Championship to be held in conjunction with High School Fishing World Finals on Lake Pickwick, June 27-July 1.

Juniors will compete on Lake Wateree in South Carolina in conjunction with the Forest Wood Cup event to be held in August.  Juniors took to the water on Saturday with weather conditions improving and the fish moving up on beds. Jordan Gregory came out on top this year with a winning weight of 12.12 pounds and had big fish of the tournament with  a 3.55 pound largemouth.

Blake Williams who was last year’s junior champion fell just ounces short to repeat with 11.75 pounds. Third place went to Carson Yancey who was also a past junior champion.  He brought 7.68 pounds to the scales.  Tate Webb finished fourth with 7.19 pounds and the youngest competitor, eleven year old Charles Hill, finished 5th.

Sunday’s weather had improved with sunny skies and calm conditions as the high school teams made things interesting at the weigh-in. Trevor Huff & Wade Wilkens took top team honors with 19 pounds.   They also weighed big fish of the tournament with a largemouth weighing of 4.75 pounds.

Just ounces behind with 18.96l pounds was Blake Williams & Drake Ofsthun.  Third went to Austin Redding and Madden Tobeck with 18.75 pounds.

Twelve thousand dollars in scholarship funds were presented to the top three teams. Sponsor donations and grants offered to the top three teams totally $1,200 were offered at all four high school tournaments this year.  Student Angler Federation members can accumulate certificates throughout high school and are redeemable upon enrollment in college or trade school within a year of High school graduation.

Edwards and Camp win Mississippi State Championship April 1 at Aberdeen Marina

A large crowd cheered as 40 high school fishing teams took to the scales at Aberdeen Marina in Aberdeen, Ms., April 1. Seth Edwards and Jordan Camp of the West Point High School Fishing Team would come out on top with four bass weighing 10.86 pounds to be crowned 2017 Mississippi High School Fishing State Champions.  The pair also took the Lew’s Big Bass Award with a 6.94 pound lunker and were awarded Lew’s merchandise.

There was a eat crowd for weigh-in to watch the field of 40 boats bring their fish to the scales.

Coming in Second place was Haze Hillhouse and Caden Cresap from Itawamba High School with 8.70 pounds.  Third place went to Garrett McWilliams and Addison Yates from Discovery Christian School with 8.46 pounds.  The final qualifying spot went to the fourth place team of Jake Donahoo and Tyler Alvis from the West Point High School Fishing Team with 7.98 pounds.  Fifth place went to Palmer Lockhart and Nichols Tyler from Tupelo Golden Wave High School.

The top four teams will advance to the National Event to be held this summer in conjunction with the High School World Finals in Florence, Alabama.
