North Carolina High School Fishing State Championship Set For March 17

Ponca City, Okla. (Feb. 22, 2012) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW Outdoors, and Salisbury-Rowan County Convention & Visitors Bureau announced it will host the 2012 Student Angler Federation North Carolina High School Fishing State Championship.  The event will be Saturday, March 17 on High Rock Lake launching out of the Dutch Second Creek Ramp in Salisbury, N.C.  The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for high school anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org or by calling 580.765.9031. Check-in begins at 6pm on Friday, March 16, at the Salisbury Holiday Inn with a mandatory rules briefing at 7pm.  We highly encourage all teams to preregister online or by phone in advance to avoid late registration fees.

Highland Rebels Fishing Team (AR) holds first event of 2012 on Bull Shoals!

The Highland Rebels Bass Fishing Team from Highland Arkansas held its 1st overnight event of 2012. This is the clubs 4th function since starting up last fall. We had a total of 13 student anglers as well as 8 participating boat captains there. The tournament was held at Bull Shoals Lake in Bull shoals Arkansas. The weather was cold, gloomy, and overcast. Fishing was tough but some teams managed to bring fish to the scales.  The winning team of Emma Johnson and Brittney Redding, the two of their 3 girls on the team, said it was tough. They caught their 4 total fish on shaky heads and suspended jerkbaits in around 40 feet of water.  The second place team of Carter Kaiser and Alex Graddy brought one nice Kentucky to the scales. They caught most of their fish of the day on finesse worms and jerkbaits over about 30 feet of water. The 3rd place team of Chase Hutchings and Bill Johnson, boat captain, brought one Kentucky to the scales. Continue reading

Kentucky High School Athletic Association Announces Bass Fishing as High School Sport

Bass Fishing Adds To Growing List Of Championship Sport-Activities

February 22, 2012 – Kentucky’s lakes, rivers and streams have always been a haven for anglers and record-breaking catches. Starting with the 2012-13 school year, young anglers will have a chance to win something more – a high school state championship.

The KHSAA will add bass fishing as a varsity sport-activity starting next year, Commissioner Julian Tackett announced in a Wednesday morning press conference. Bass fishing will join bowling, which is holding its first KHSAA-sanctioned state championship in late March, and competitive cheer as sport-activities offered by the Association. Kentucky becomes the third state nationally to offer bass fishing as a varsity sport, following Illinois and Tennessee. It will be offered in the spring with a regular season scheduled from late February through mid-April. The postseason and state competition will take place in late April. Continue reading
