Michigan high school bass anglers square off in state championship

Lake St. Clair once again lived up to its reputation as a bass factory during Sunday’s 2012 Michigan High School Fishing State Championship. Two-person teams from high schools across the state gave everything they had for a chance to advance to the central division regional tournament and Lake St. Clair did not disappoint – surrendering limit catches of big bass to every team. Marist High School conquers Shelbyville Lake in Strong Field to Win Illinois SAF State Championship

Nicholas Engel and Nicklas Kushnerik brought in an impressive 4-fish sack weighing 12 lbs 12 oz to win the 2012 Illinois SAF High School Fishing State Championship on Shelbyville. The Marist High School duo used a June bug colored shakyhead to catch the majority of the fish on their way to the winning effort.   “We came down here on Thursday to pre-fish and struggled to find fish all day. Finally on Friday we were able to put a few things together and catch a few fish and that was the winning pattern that led us to victory,” stated Engel. “We are really excited to be advancing on and fishing the conference championship on Lake Carlyle. We fished that lake in the Illinois High School Association in the past and have always done well there,” State the team, who is excited the Conference Championship will be hosted in their home state this fall. 2012 Minnesota High School State Champions Crowned!!

On Saturday 6/23/12 the Minnesota Federation of Bass Anglers held the Minnesota State High School Bass Championship on the Horseshoe Chain in Cold Spring, MN. The nice thing about the Horseshoe chain it is wide open to all the fishing styles of the 15 teams participating in the tournament. The 2012 Minnesota High School champions are Kolton Resseman and Shande Childers from Rocori High School with a bag weight of 17.11  and big bass of the tournament of 5.08,  2nd place went to Sam Groskreut and Christian Peterson from Minnetonka High School with the weight of 14.60 and 3rd place was Austin Anderly and Josh Hoops of LeSueur-Henderson/ St Cloud High Schools with a weight of 11.94. The weather held off the threat of rain and the sun came out about 3 hours into the event making the day a very enjoyable experience for all.
