2014 Illinois State Championship partners with Argenta Oreana Bomber Invitational

PONCA CITY, Okla. (March 13, 2014) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW is pleased to host the 2014 Student Angler Federation, (SAF) Illinois High School Fishing State Championship on Clinton Lake on Saturday, April 5.  The SAF state championship will be a joint event with the Argenta Oreana Bomber Invitational.

The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org. Check-in is 6am Saturday, April 5 at the Boondocks Grill at Mascoutin Access Area.  A mandatory rules briefing will follow at 7am. We highly encourage all teams to pre-register online or by phone in advance to avoid late registration fees.

Any team interested in fishing the SAF State Championship portion of the event can register on-line at highschoolfishing.org by clicking the “state championships” tab and then scrolling down to the Illinois event. All anglers present can also support the “Bomber Invitational,” which is a fundraising event for their school’s fishing team. The invitational event has a $50 entry fee per team and awards additional prizes and trophies for those participating.

“We are thrilled to partner with the SAF on the 2014 Bomber Invitational,” Tournament Organizer and Ranger Boat Regional Representative, Jason Parsons, stated.  “Having the SAF Illinois State Championship and the FLW Outdoors providing the weigh-in trailer creates a great experience for our anglers with expanded opportunities for all the teams, including the chance to advance on to the TBF/FLW regional events taking place this fall along with a shot at the High School National Championship,” added Parsons.

“State championships allow every SAF member in North America the opportunity to fish in a championship tournament setting,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, stated. “This year, with the help of our partners at FLW, we’re expanding the program again by offering more advancement opportunities based on field size. In 2014, the top 10% of the field will advance. This rewards areas of the country working hard to grow the sport of high school fishing.”

Cost is only $25/ year.  Membership includes full TBF and FLW benefits, FLW Magazine e-Edition and insurance coverage for clubs and students. The top 10% of each SAF state championship and the top 3 teams from any SAF National OPEN event will advance to an FLW/TBF High School Fishing Conference Championship. The top 10% of each conference championship will advance to the FLW/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held spring of 2015 in conjunction with a major TBF or FLW event. The National Champions win a $5,000 college scholarship to the school or their choice. All SAF members nationwide and all open and state championship participants automatically qualify for the largest event in high school fishing, the 2014 High School Fishing World Finals. At the 2013 World Finals, over $40,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded.  As with all SAF national events, there is no entry fee to this come one, come all, family vacation event that gives every high school team a shot at thousands in scholarships and prizes.

If you’re not a 2014 SAF member, there’s a one-time $25/per angler fee.  This includes full TBF & FLW membership for the year, as well as, free entry to ALL National SAF events!

A unique SAF event feature is the “angler testing” component. It’s not “just about fishing” but also about education. This year’s angler testing will come from TBF’s new on-line education format with Faculty of Fishing. Anglers can go to highschoolfishing.org and click on “Online Education” then type in their SAF number and zip code to access the FOF site. They have a host of chapters covering a wide variety of topics. “Angler testing and education is an industry first by TBF,” Gintert said. “We built education into the foundation of the entire program when we began, and our partnership with FLW provides even more benefits and opportunities for them to take advantage of,” Gintert continued.  “For only $25 per year these young anglers and have opportunities unlike anything the industry has ever seen.”

2014 Kentucky High School State Championship Moves to Lake Cumberland

Georgetown College joins the movement as Scholarship provider

PONCA CITY, Okla. (March 13, 2014) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW is pleased to host the 2014 Student Angler Federation, (SAF) Kentucky High School State Championship March 23 at Conley Bottom Marina on Lake Cumberland in Central Kentucky.

The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org. Check-in is 3-4:30pm EST on Saturday, March 22 at the TBF trailer at Conley Bottom Marina with a mandatory rules briefing to follow. “The local community led by Charlie Denny and Fred Piercy of Conley Bottom Marina really stepped up to bring the SAF Championship to central Kentucky this year,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, stated. “They rounded up support from the City of Monticello and several other businesses to help make a terrific event for our anglers.

 In addition, we wanted to reward the schools in central Kentucky growing school clubs immensely the last two years by bringing a championship event closer to home,” Gintert continued. “With the KHSAA championship being held on Kentucky Lake this equals out travel requirements for a lot of schools.”

Georgetown College has also taken on the role of title scholarship provider for this year’s event. The winning team will receive a $2,000 Scholarship ($1,000 for each angler) to attend Georgetown College.

“Georgetown College is pleased to offer a $1,000 renewable scholarship to the Kentucky SAF State Champions,” Georgetown Senior Admissions Counselor, Josh Franklin, stated.  “It’s important to us to see continued progress with our nationally-ranked Bass Fishing Team.  Georgetown is excited about the partnership with SAF to help carry on the tradition of excellence our college provides.”  This scholarship will aid in bringing excellent student-athletes to our campus,” Franklin added.  “We are committed to bringing in students with diverse extra-curricular interests.”

Due to increasing demand from many of our high school and Junior clubs for scales and the necessary items to run their own tournaments we have put together a weigh-in kit for our member school clubs.

You will see the following items pictured below as the components of the kit.

  1.  A set of affordable, dependable, accurate, electronic digital scales which many of our NBAA circuits use at their weeknight events across the country. The front detaches and sets off to the side and you can simply slide the scale base into a one gallon ziplock bag leave the back with the wires running out open to keep the water off of it. They make great little weigh scales and we have many sets in the field for 2-3 years now and still going strong!
