Oregon State champions win High School Western Regional on Saguaro Lake

TEMPE, Ariz. – Jacob Wall, St. Mary’s High School and Colby Pearson, Crater High School, Ore., won the High School Western Regional tournament held on Saguaro Lake Saturday. TBF along with FLW held the high school tournament in conjunction with the FLW College Fishing Western Regional.The team caught a five bass limit weighing 14 pounds, 0 ounces to beat San Benito High School, by 6 pounds, 9 ounces.The team was drop-shotting along a bank in 8 to 20 feet of water.“We pulled up to this random bank not knowing if it had fish or not,” Pearson said. “We just kept making passes along the same bank all day long and were able to milk it for 14 pounds.”Both young anglers are planning to go to the University of Oregon so they can compete on the bass team while in college. Maryville Middle School Bass Club Holds Successful Event on Fort Loudon

The Maryville Middle Bass Club is starting its third year with 48 members of The Bass Federation’s Student Angler Federation. Our school is made up of 7th and 8th graders and about 5% of our student body is in the bass club. Recently, our club held its fall fishing event on Fort Loudoun Lake near Knoxville, Tennessee. We had 42 student anglers fish in pairs along with 21 boat volunteers.

Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources Propose Asian Carp Netting Trial

Ponca City, Okla.,-Nov. 17, 2011 – In a proactive attempt to stave off the onslaught of Asian Carp the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will be conducting a trial netting program in Kentucky and Barkley Lakes.

Ron Brooks from the KDFWR addressed a crowd of 40 interested participants who attended the Kentucky Dam and Village Convention Center. He explained to the group Asian Carp are now in every tributary of the Mississippi River ranging as far north as North Dakota. The waters of Kentucky and Barkley Lakes are infested and the numbers are growing in record proportions.    Continue reading
