Hilldale Hornets Take Oklahoma State Championship!

DSC_054959 teams arrived today in the largest turnout to date for the Oklahoma High School Fishing State Championship.  Blake Capps and Josh Giem of the Hilldale High School Hornets rose above the pack to claim the state champion titles.  Capps and Giem weighed in an impressive 16lb 12ounce bag.

This win moves the Hilldale team to the 2013 TBF/FLW Southern Conference Championship on Lake Texoma, October 19. A win there would advance the team to nationals to compete for a $10,000 scholarship. Continue reading

PONCA CITY, Okla. (Apr 17, 2013) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW, North Carolina Bass Federation and Vance County Tourism Development Authority announced today it will host the 2013 Student Angler Federation (SAF) North Carolina High School Fishing State Championship on Saturday, April 20. The event will be held in Vance County on Kerr Lake in Henderson, N.C., launching out of Nutbush Park.

The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org. Check-in is from 6:30am to 8pm EST on Friday, April 19 at the Quality Inn in Henderson, N.C., with a mandatory rules briefing to follow at 8pm EST. We highly encourage all teams to pre-register online or by phone in advance to avoid late registration fees.

Calloway Anglers win Region 1 Title – advance to state competition!

KHSAA Region 1 ChampsThe Calloway County Laker team of Cody Jackson and Trevor Salyers placed first in Saturday’s Region 1 Bass Fishing competition held on Lake Barkley. One of only three teams to bring in a limit of five bass, the duo tipped the scales with a day’s catch of 15 lbs., 10 oz. Salyers, who grew up fishing on Barren River Lake in central Kentucky, stated that “conditions on Barkley are similar, maybe giving us a slight advantage today.”  Salyers, a second-year member of the Laker team and his partner, Cody Jackson, will advance to the KHSAA State Championship at the end of April. The tourney will be held on Kentucky Lake and promises to be two days of action-packed angling. Continue reading
