The event will launch out of Laurel Park in the city of Gainesville. The angler has good tournament experience and is looking for someone to fish with.

PONCA CITY, Okla. (April 2, 2014) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW is pleased to host the 2014 Student Angler Federation (SAF) MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP on Sunday, June 22 at Hellenberg Park in the city of Monroe Michigan.
The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org. Check-in is 3-4:30pm EST on Saturday, June 21 at the weigh in trailer at Hellenberg Park located at, 1319 E Front St. Monroe, MI 48161 with a mandatory rules briefing to follow. We highly encourage all teams to pre-register online or by phone in advance to avoid late registration fees.
“Hellenberg Park and the City of Monroe are a terrific place for a High School Fishing Tournament” stated Tournament Director Doug Scott. “Weather permitting we will fish the legendary waters of Lake Erie and in the event of rough water we will fish the Monroe river for the day” added Scott.
“State championships allow every SAF member in North America the opportunity to fish in a championship tournament setting,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, stated. “This year, with the help of our partners at FLW, we’re expanding the program again by offering more advancement opportunities based on field size. In 2014, the top 10% of the field will advance. This rewards areas of the country working hard to grow the sport of high school fishing.”
Students and parents can go to HighSchoolFishing.org for details on the Student Angler Federation (SAF) and to sign up. Cost is only $25/ year. Membership includes full TBF and FLW benefits, FLW Magazine e-Edition and insurance coverage for clubs and students. The top 10% of each SAF state championship and the top 3 teams from any SAF National OPEN event will advance to an FLW/TBF High School Fishing Conference Championship. The top 10% of each conference championship will advance to the FLW/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held spring of 2015 in conjunction with a major TBF or FLW event. The National Champions win a $5,000 college scholarship to the school or their choice. All SAF members nationwide and all open and state championship participants automatically qualify for the largest event in high school fishing, the 2014 High School Fishing World Finals. At the 2013 World Finals, over $40,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded. As with all SAF national events, there is no entry fee to this come one, come all, family vacation event that gives every high school team a shot at thousands in scholarships and prizes.
If you’re not a 2014 SAF member, there’s a one-time $25/per angler fee. This includes full TBF & FLW membership for the year, as well as, free entry to ALL National SAF events!
A unique SAF event feature is the “angler testing” component. It’s not “just about fishing” but also about education. This year’s angler testing will come from TBF’s new on-line education format with Faculty of Fishing. Anglers can go to highschoolfishing.org and click on “Online Education” then type in their SAF number and zip code to access the FOF site. They have a host of chapters covering a wide variety of topics. “Angler testing and education is an industry first by TBF,” Gintert said. “We built education into the foundation of the entire program when we began, and our partnership with FLW provides even more benefits and opportunities for them to take advantage of,” Gintert continued. “For only $25 per year these young anglers and have opportunities unlike anything the industry has ever seen.”

2014 High School Fishing World Finals
Returns to Lake Dardanelle

PONCA CITY (March 11, 2014) – The Bass Federation (TBF), is pleased to announce that the 2014 High School Fishing World Finals will once again return to legendary Lake Dardanelle and the city of Russellville, Ark. The event dates are July 15-19 at Lake Dardanelle State Park.
“We are thrilled to host this event again in the city of Russellville,” Executive Director of Tourism for Russellville, Christie Graham, stated. “This event continues to grow every year and has become a terrific family destination for high school anglers across the country. Our community loves bringing this group in as it allows us to showcase our entire area as a family vacation destination.”
“Our expanded format last year built a lot of excitement for this event,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, said. “Adding the semi-final and consolation rounds as well as another full day of fishing was well received by our anglers and their families. Combine that with the expansion of Saturday’s final to 20 teams and we had a lot of final day excitement,” Gintert added. “To spruce things up this year we’ll be expanding tournament waters to allow locking into the rest of the Arkansas River system so our teams will have more water to fish and some additional strategies to contend with.”
‘The High School Fishing World Finals has done more to grow high school fishing nationwide than any other event,” TBF President, Robert Cartlidge, stated. “Several states that now have high school fishing teams and programs can trace their roots back to teams participating in this event,” Cartlidge added. “Our staff works very hard to make this a showcase event for high school fishing and at the same time keep it exciting for our anglers and their families. The staff and facilities at Lake Dardanelle State Park are absolutely top-notch and it’s central US location right on I-40 make it a great family vacation.”
As always, the HSFWF is open to all high school anglers in the country. For active SAF members there are no entry fees. For non-SAF members the $25/yr membership can be purchased online at the time of registration. All anglers can register in advance at highschoolfishing.org by clicking on HSFWF on the homepage.
Official practice begins Sunday, July 13. The check-in and rules meeting banquet will be Tuesday, July 15 at Russellville High School starting at 3:30pm with the rules meeting and dinner to follow at 6pm.
This year’s format will once again have the top two teams from each state or country advancing to Friday’s semi-final round of competition. Those not making the semi-final round will have a chance to fish their way back into Saturday’s top 20 final through the consolation round. For Saturday’s final round the top 20 weights will compete (the top 10 from the semi-final round and the next 10 highest weights overall).
A host of scholarships and prizes await the winners, as well as, advancement to the prestigious Boat US Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship where they can compete against the top college teams in the country. The winners at that event could also advance to fish for a chance at the Forrest Wood Cup and the TBF “Living the Dream” package, which has the potential to launch a professional fishing career.
The event will be televised on Federation Angler TV series on NBC Sports next fall.
