2016 Louisiana High School State Championship March 26 on Sibley Lake

HSF-headerPONCA CITY, Okla. (February 15, 2016) – The Bass Federation (TBF), with our “Partner in Fishing” at FLW, announces the 2016 Student Angler Federation (SAF) Louisiana High School State Championship on Saturday, March 26 at the Sibley Lake Public Ramp near Natchidoches, LA.

The state championship is a two person event for students in grades 9-12. Each team can have one member in 7th or 8th grade, if needed. All teams should pre-register online for high school events at HighSchoolFishing.org to avoid onsite late fees. Each team and their “coach,” who provides the boat they compete in, will need to check in at 5:30pm-7pm CST on March 25 at the Northwestern State University. A rules briefing will immediately follow. Take off is at 7am and the weigh-in will begin at 3pm.

“TBF and our partners in fishing at FLW are the only organizations to offer a state championship in every state and Canada,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, stated. “There’s no question our State Championship Series provides the foundation to make SAF the largest high school fishing organization in North America.”

The top 10% of each 2016 State Championship event advances to a FLW/TBF Conference Regional Championship. The top 10% from the Conference Regional events advance to the FLW/TBF High School National Championship to compete for the top team prize of a $10,000 scholarship. As an added bonus, national championship teams will compete out of new Ranger Boats provided for them, along with paid hotel accommodations and other perks. The final day weigh-in will take place on the FLW main stage in front of a live FLW Tour stop!

Pay in advance or register for an event online and pay then. There are no entry fees as long as you enter your active/paid SAF membership number at the time of registration!

SAF membership includes full TBF and FLW competitor membership benefits, FLW Magazine e- Edition, online training programs and full insurance coverage for clubs, officers and student members.

In addition to State Championships, SAF National OPENs and other events held across the nation will advance the top 3 teams to their Conference Regional Championships. All SAF members automatically qualify to compete in the pinnacle of all high school events, the 2016 High School Fishing World Finals for thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes each year. The World Finals format allows anglers to test their skills against high school anglers from across the nation at a week-long family vacation event, which will be held in Florence, Alabama on Pickwick Reservoir, June 28-July 2. This no entry fee, come one, come all mega event gives every high school team a shot at the sports top prizes and honors.

FAN High School Fishing Series heads to the Big Bass Jewel of Central Texas, Lake Austin on March 12, 2016

Lake Austin, nestled in the heart of the State Capital City holds some very impressive stats- OK, not the size of the lake at merely 1600 surface acres; mainly it’s one of the state’s largest producers of 13+ largemouth bass with 20 certified, “Toyota ShareLunker Bass”. Lake Austin is currently tied in 6th place with Lake Falcon for top ShareLunker producing lakes.

“Bringing the third final qualifying tournament of the series to Lake Austin in early march is very exciting to us! Knowing any one of these student anglers could very possibly bring in the next ShareLunker of the year” VP of Tournament Operations, Justin Rieger, stated.

This will be the final of three qualifying event for the 2015/16 Championship season and the last chance for angler of the year. The top 50% of the representing High School fishing teams and any team that finished in the top 10% in one of two tournaments will earn the right to compete in the FAN High School Championship on April 23rd with the chance to win over $6000 in scholarships and prizes. * (must meet 2 tournament qualifying rule)

Check in will start at 5:30 am at the boat launch parking lot, there will be a boat safety check and we will release boats in numerical order at safe light

Weigh in will be at 2PM or2:15PM depending on your flight time. The weigh in and event site will be at picnic site A/B north of the swim beach (see map) – you must check in at the boat launch at your flight time, however; we will allow until 3PM to get to the scales, this is to give everyone time to get their boats on the trailer and attend the weigh in and awards ceremony.

Awards: Top finishing anglers will win tournament quality prizes from Abu Garcia, Berkley, Sebile and Havoc, in addition to, a big bass award provided by Kistler Rods.

Who is Eligible

Registration is open to all 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. The entry fee for each tournament is $40 per boat with no more than two team members and each team member must be a TBF Student Angler Federation (SAF) member. In addition to the one-time FAN High School Fishing Series Membership of $10 per individual. Contestants must also have the signature of a parent or legal guardian in the provided space on the liability form.

How to Register

Registration deadline will be the Thursday, two days prior to the tournament,
FAN High School Fishing Series Rules and Regulations entry fee will be $40 per team. After that time, a $10 late registration fee will be assessed until the start of the tournament and at that time no more registrations will be accepted. Late registrations will not affect the number of places awarded for the tournament.
