DELUCA’S WIN MISSOURI HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Johnny and Tony Deluca put together a five fish limit weighing 11 pounds 2 ounces to win the SAF Missouri High School Fishing State Championship on Truman Lake. The pair targeted gravel, stumps and docks using a combination of baits, including a chatterbait, spinnerbait and a square bill crankbait to find their winning limit.
The team was awarded the championship titles, trophies and a slot in the Southern Conference Championship where they will also be provided custom jerseys. The championship event will be held in Shreveport, La. in October.
Coming in second, was the veteran team of Trey Schroeder and Grant Nisbit with a limit of bass weighing 9 pounds 8 ounces. Rounding out the top three was the team of Corbin Mertgen and Heath Renno who had three Truman lake bass that weighed 5 pounds 9 ounces.

The 2016 Missouri State Championship was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12. The top 10 percent from each TBF/FLW state championship field and the top three teams from each of the seven TBF/FLW Opens will advance to a Conference Championship event. The top 10 percent of each conference championship field will then advance to the High School Fishing National Championship, in the spring of 2017. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to the school of their choice.
In addition to the state, conference and national championship events, all High School Fishing anglers nationwide qualify for the world’s largest high school fishing, standalone, championship event, the 2016 High School Fishing World Finals. The 2016 World Finals is this week on Pickwick Reservoir in Florence, Ala., with over $60,000 in scholarships and prizes up for grabs. Click here for more details.
NORTHWEST GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL ANGLERS ASSOCIATION CONTINUES TO GROW
High School Fishing is alive and well in North West Georgia & the NWGHSAA is a big reason why.
The North West Georgia High School Anglers Association was formed two years ago by Chris Townsend and several other individuals who make up their Board of Directors. The group saw their numbers grow from 70 anglers and 35 boats in 2015 to 188 anglers and 97 boats in 2016.
Recently they held their annual year end banquet, which approximately 400 anglers, parents, boat captains and coaches attended in Dalton Georgia. In addition to enjoying a great BBQ dinner, they also awarded almost $9,000 in scholarship awards to their anglers.
Finishing in the top three in points were the following teams.
Team of the year honors went to Dylan and Caleb Hays from North Murray High School in Chatsworth, Ga. Coming in second, was the team of Hunter Roberson and Caleb O’Neal from Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, Ga. Avery Shepherd and Mickey Payne from Northwest High School in Varnell, Ga. finished in third place.
The teams accumulated points for not only their fishing but also for attending association meetings and a variety of other criteria. Congratulations to those anglers for their fine efforts throughout the year.
In the school of the year race, Coahulla Creek High School from Dalton, Ga. finished in third place. North Murray High School from Chatsworth, Ga. finished in the runner-up spot and the School of the Year honors went to Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga Ga.
The winning school has their name added to a rotating trophy that is displayed in their trophy case for the next year.
