Texas High School Fishing State Championship Set For May 21

Ponca City, Okla. (March 14, 2011) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW Outdoors, announced it will be hosting the inaugural Student Angler Federation Texas High School Fishing State Championship, May 21 at Lake Lavon, just outside of Allen, Texas. The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9 -12. Registration for high school anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org or by calling 580.765.9031. Check-in begins at 4:30pm on Friday, May 20 at the brand new Cabela’s Retail store U.S. Highway 75 at the Stacy Road exit in Allen, Texas, with a mandatory rules briefing at 6:30pm. We highly encourage all teams to pre-register online or by phone in advance to avoid registration fees.

“The city of Allen Texas is thrilled to be hosting the first Student Angler Federation Texas State High School State Bass Fishing Championship,” Tourism Director, Karen Cromwell, stated. “We are eager to bring these young anglers and their families to our city for what promises to be a great event.”

Students and parents can go to HighSchoolFishing.org for details on the Student Angler Federation (SAF) and to sign up. Cost is only $25/ year and includes full TBF and FLW Outdoors benefits, including access to the all-new FLW Outdoors Magazine e-Edition and insurance coverage for students and their club. The winning two-person team from each state championship will advance to an FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing Regional Championship held in conjunction with a National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional Championship hosted on a college campus this fall. Ranger boats will be provided for the high school anglers to fish from at each regional championship, and the winners from each regional will advance to the FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held on a college campus in conjunction with the National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship in the spring of 2012. All SAF members and state championship participants qualify for the largest event in high school fishing, the 2011 High School Fishing World Finals, July 20-23 in Russellville, Ark., to compete for thousands in college scholarships and prizes. The High School Fishing National Championship winner’s will also each receive a $5,000 scholarship to use at the university of their choice.

If you’re not an SAF member, there’s a $25/per angler fee for the state championship, which includes full TBF/FLW Outdoors membership benefits, and the onetime fee covers ALL SAF sanctioned events all year!

“We’re very excited to be working with the TBF of Texas Federation and the city of Allen to help bring this event to the state of Texas,” TBF National President, Robert Cartlidge, said. “Our affiliated state federations are the backbone of the industry; they’re on the ground doing the work to put on these types of events and give high school anglers in Texas a chance to grow their skills, have some fun, compete to advance, and get involved with other programs the TBF of Texas Federation has to offer.”

Another unique feature of an SAF sanctioned event is the “angler testing” component. Anglers can take a free online test at HighSchoolFishing.org about boater safety, conservation and angler ethics, which makes them eligible for contingency awards at their state championship. “It’s an industry first by TBF and a tremendous way to emphasize the importance of education to these student anglers,” Gintert commented. “The Federation is driven by our desire to promote education through fishing and the testing component is designed to do exactly that. Put this package together with our partnership with FLW Outdoors and the sky is the limit.  These young anglers will have opportunities unlike anything the industry has ever seen.”

CABELA’S SET TO OPEN 3rd TEXAS STORE IN ALLEN AT NOON, THURSDAY, APRIL 14, 2011

ALLEN, Texas (February 15, 2011) — Cabela’s Incorporated (NYSE: CAB), the World’s Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, will open its newest store in Allen, Texas, at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011.   Allen is Cabela’s third Texas location and the second in the Dallas Metroplex.  The company currently operates stores in Fort Worth and Buda.

The 100,000-square-foot store, located at U.S. Highway 75 at the Stacy Road exit in Allen, will showcase thousands of products, including hunting, fishing, camping, boating and wildlife-watching gear, as well as outdoor clothing and outdoor-themed gifts and furnishings.  Cabela’s stores are known as premier shopping and tourism destinations, drawing visitors from the local area and from hundreds of miles away.

“Opening another store in Texas is a great way to celebrate Cabela’s 50th anniversary,” said Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner. “It will be a milestone for the company and for Texans who will enjoy the accessibility of three stores, the same number of locations boasted by our home state of Nebraska.”

The Allen store will be built in the Cabela’s trademark style that showcases the best of the outdoors in a spectacular indoor shopping experience.  The building’s exterior will reflect Cabela’s traditional store model with log construction, stonework, wood siding and metal roofing.  A large glass storefront will allow customers to view much of the store’s interior as they approach the building.

When the doors open at noon on April 14, visitors will be greeted in an open foyer with a massive fireplace, sporting the atmosphere of an inviting lodge.  The 12-foot-wide fireplace has a 6-foot-wide hearth covered with large rubble stone.  Its log mantle will feature taxidermy mounts as well as hand-painted art.

The interior will highlight the company’s next-generation layout, which is designed to immerse customers in the outdoor experience.  Cabela’s stores are known as top-notch educational and entertainment attractions.  Cabela’s is much more than a retail store and will provide unique attractions for every member of the family including:

  • Hundreds of conservation-themed wildlife displays and trophy animal mounts re-created in their native habitats;
  • Cabela’s hallmark two-story Conservation Mountain, complete with a running waterfall, pond, wild game display; and a 13,170-gallon, aquarium stocked with freshwater fish, including those native to the region;
  • Five raised dioramas throughout the store, featuring North American and African wildlife;
  • Reproduction of Texas State record Whitetail (Non-Typical 284 3/8 Boone and Crockett, taken in 1892 in McCulloch, Texas, by Unknown hunter);
  • Other highlights include an Express Café, Gun Library, General Store and Bargain Cave.

The general contractor is Rogers-O’Brien Construction of Dallas.

Store manager Matthew Burtch has hired 250 employees, many from the greater Allen area, to carry on the company’s tradition of excellent customer service.  Cabela’s employees are famous for living the outdoor lifestyle and having intimate knowledge of outdoor products.

Country music star Jack Ingram to help Cabela’s celebrate opening of its new store in Allen

Friday, April 15 concert will raise funds for Dallas Ecological Foundation’s Outdoor Adventures program

ALLEN, Texas (March  2011) – Country music sensation, Jack Ingram, is coming to Allen, Texas, to help Cabela’s kick off the grand opening of its new 100,000-square-foot store with a special concert Friday night, April 15 at Allen Event Center.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the show begins at 8:00 p.m.   Ticket proceeds go to Dallas Ecological Foundation’s Outdoor Adventures program, which educates youth about outdoor skills and wildlife conservation.

Special Store Features

WILDLIFE DISPLAYS – Cabela’s wildlife displays resemble those found in the finest natural history museums.  Project coordinator Mark Dowse, who is overseeing construction of the displays said, “The animals are so perfectly presented that you have to look twice to make sure they’re not moving.”   The displays, including antelope and mule deer, aim to educate adults and children alike with a collection of wildlife in their native habitat.

Hundreds of big-game trophies and other wildlife displays — from the western prairie, to the Alaskan tundra and the African plains — are prominently displayed throughout the store.  “Visitors who come to the store will be amazed and will understand why Cabela’s is truly unique,” said Dowse.

Some of the notable displays include five raised dioramas throughout the store, featuring African Cape buffalo, rhino, leopard, lion, and plains game; Texas exotics, including fallow deer, red deer, axis deer, blackbuck, aoudad sheep, mouflon sheep and blue bull; and caribou, bison, grizzly and black bears.

CONSERVATION MOUNTAIN – The store is punctuated by a two-story-tall Conservation Mountain replica, with a running waterfall, pond and even a beaver dam.  The mountain’s ponds run on the same recycled filter system as Cabela’s aquarium.

The mountain features wild game mounts in their distinct habitats, including mountain goats, polar bear, mountain lion, caribou, antelope, coyote, American elk, wolverines, wolves, lynx, mule deer and white-tailed deer.   Smaller North American animals include bobcat, fox, otters, beaver, badger and a variety of grouse and quail.

AQUARIUM

Built into Conservation Mountain is a huge 13,170-gallon aquarium, including freshwater fish indigenous to the region.  Information kiosks with interactive touch screens identify each species and explain its characteristics.  Kids as well as adults will find the kiosks educational and fun.

The aquarium is continuously recycled in a “closed system,” which reclaims and recirculates the water, then replaces it in the aquarium.  In addition, the aquarium department will have its own specialized staff including trained biologists.
