5/1/11 – CJ Strike Reservoir – Brothers Asa and Alex Schneiderman were named the 2011 Idaho High School Fishing State Champions at CJ Strike Reservoir on Sunday, May 1st. The team from Buhl, Idaho, brought in a limit of bass that weighed 4 lbs 1 oz – enough to make them state champs. The second place team, Josh Wheatley and Parker Sorg of Mountain View High School, weighed in 3 fish that weighed 3 lbs 3 oz.
The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9 -12, and is driven by their coach/boat captain in a boat the team must provide.
The state champions will also advance to an FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing Regional Championship held in conjunction with a National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional Championship hosted on a college campus this fall. They will receive travel allowances to help offset expenses and use of a Ranger boat for the event. The winners from each regional will advance to the FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held on a college campus in conjunction with the National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship in the spring of 2012. National Champions will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to use at the university of their choice.
Each team that competed is now qualified to enter the 2011 High School Fishing World Finals held in July in Russellville, Ark., with no entry fees. Information on this prestigious event can be found online at www.highschoolfishing.org.
A big thank you to the Idaho Bass Federation for helping out with this event and to all parents, mentors, teachers and coaches who got these students involved in high school fishing. Without you guys, it wouldn’t be possible!
