Carlisle & Hastings Win Texas High School Championship on Lake Palestine

Carlisle & Hastings Win Texas High School Championship on Lake Palestine

Limits were hard to come by on Saturday, following a front and a couple of days of very strong winds.  With temperatures in the upper seventies and the lake temps in the high fifties, many of the bass were moving around in the shallow bay areas and hanging out around trees and grass mats.  Most anglers reportedly found their success in less than three feet of water.  Brush Hogs, Texas Rigged Worms, Jigs, Craws and even spinnerbaits were all used by the top three teams.  Some anglers caught their fish early, while others did not catch their last fish until the last hour of the event.  The Rockwell Heath team of Hunter Alexander and Ben Cully only got one keeper bite on Saturday, but it was good enough for the Big Bass of the event at 5-08 pounds.

Will Carlisle & Zachary Hastings took top honors and the Championship with a bag that tipped the scales at 12-15 pounds.  The Bullard High School team said most of their fish came “really, really shallow”.  Just three ounces behind them in second place was the Marble Falls Team of Craig Dodson & Kaleb Smith with 12-12 pounds.  Finishing third to claim the final National Championship spot from this event was the team of Chance Burton & Tyler Bouyer from Brock High School.  Their sack of fish weighed in at 11-03 pounds.

These three teams earned a spot in the upcoming High School National Championship event on June 26-30 at Pickwick Lake at Florence, Alabama.

FAN HSF “Last Chance” Wild Card Tournament Presented by Amenity Service

March 24th on Lake LBJ with a $1000 Scholarship top award.

With the 3 qualifying tournaments behind us, the stage is set for the Toyota Cedar Park Angler of the Year race and the Berkley Chase for the Champions with over $8,000 in scholarships and prizes.

As a moment of déjà vu sets in, the Lake Travis Fishing Team of Parker Wagner and Benjamin Mosely is currently leading with a 10-point margin against Joshua Maxwell and Tanner Shelton who set FAN HSF records at the Lake Buchanan tournament February 24th with a 27.99 limit including the Kistler Big Bass at 9.80 pounds.

You can see the standings here.

The Wild Card Tournament Details

The Wild Card tournament will be a NON-POINTS tournament where FAN will award the top 5 teams that have not already qualified by way of points. The wild card tournament will also be essential for any angler that finished in a top 10% of a qualifier but still needs one more tournament to meet your two tournament minimum requirement for the Chase.

We are excited to add this new element to the FAN HSF Schedule this year. We wanted to do something fun and different that allowed those student anglers who were not able to compete during one of the qualifiers to have another shot at qualifying for the Chase. Added to that our anglers love fishing Lake LBJ, and fishing LBJ in March could possibly set new records for FAN and most definitely personal best for our student anglers as this lake is as hot as it gets this time of year.

And to top it off, we will award the winning team a $1,000 Scholarship
