The 2022 Tri-state (MD, DE, NJ) Championship was held last weekend on the Potomac River in Woodbridge, VA. The event was hosted by the Virginia Bass Federation.

At the end of the day the Free State Bass team of Trey and Beau Richardson brought in three pretty fish topping 11-02 for the win. In 2nd place was Kyle Gilson and Ty Crispin, New Breed Bassers, with 9-10. Bass Legends, Charles Paolino and Jerry Hodge III took 3rd place with 2-12.

Each contestant went home with a bag full of custom hand painted crankbaits from the Virginia TBF Vice President. The boat captains were each given handmade spinnerbaits from one of the VA Region Directors. And for excitement one of the boat Captains from Maryland buried a treble hook to the bone in his finger. One of the VA Region Directors cleanly executed the removal using the string pull in the opposite direction of entry.

All in all, a good day for the Anglers. The Student Angler Federation would like to thank the VA Bass Federation for volunteering to run this event.

The Student Angler Federation held the Missouri High School State Championship on Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City.  The Eureka Wildcat Fishing Team of Grant Priesmeyer and Brent Ryan caught a nice limit weighing 11 pounds and 15 ounces to secure the win.  Hunter Rushton and Nathan Meyer from Lees Summit High School finished second with four pounds and five ounces.  There was a tie for third between the teams of Zack Wilson and Caden Lawrence and Drew Elbert and Garret Balk with each team weighing three pounds and thirteen ounces.  There was another tie for fifth with Braden Davis and Hunter Maddox and Carter Lochmann and Roman Literski each weighing two pounds and five ounces.

Big Bass honors went to the team of Hunter Rushton and Nathan Meyer for a nice 4-05 lunker.  Anglers reported catching their fish in mostly shallow water from 3-8 feet deep.  Jigs, Swimbaits, Ned Rigs and crankbaits were what most anglers were throwing.

The 2022 SAF Virginia High School State Championship was held on March 5th at Smith Mountain Lake.

Konnor Sweet and Blaine Miller with Lebanon High School took 1st place with 8-56. Coming in 2nd place was the Southwest Select team of Thai Tatum and Brenton Powers with 6-69. Taking 3rd place was Aydin Knapp and Justin Humphrey from the Southern Outcast club with 4.51.

Congratulations to Konnor and Blaine for their 1st place finish. They will advance to the 13th Annual High School Fishing World Finals and National Championship to be held June 22-25 on Pickwick and Wilson Lakes in Florence, AL.
