Tri State Championship Held on Flat River Reservoir – Three Teams Advance to Conference Championship

RI ChampsThe Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts High School Fishing State Championships were held at the Flat River Reservoir near Coventry, RI on Saturday, June 29. The Bass Federation of Rhode Island hosted the Student Angler Federation event.

Teams from every state competed. The Rhode Island Championship team of Stephen Winter/Thomas Mello from North Kingstown High School was crowned State Champions. They had a limit that weighed 7.48 lbs. Second place went to Chris Catucci/Aiden White – Bishop Hendricken Hawks with 6.92 lbs. Third place was Dillon Falardeau/Kevin Gorman-Smith – North Smithfield HS with 6.79 lbs. Fourth John Ryan/Connor Rana – Chariho Chargers with 6.21 lbs. Last Minute Entry Wins Historic Sam Rayburn Open

IMG_2322Andrew Y’Barbo and Caleb Ramsey from East Texas High School had been on the phone for two days trying to locate a boat captain for the Inaugural Sam Rayburn Open in Historic San Augustine, Texas.  An hour before registration started Friday night at Jackson Hill Marina, the pair found a local lady angler who agreed to take the pair out for the day.

That combination of a timely call, a little good luck and of course a little angler skill landed the pair on a day to remember as they brought in a five bass limit at 10:30 am that had a net weight of 22 lbs 6 oz to win the Inaugural event that was hosted by the San Augustine Chamber of Commerce and Jackson Hill Marina. The pair not only conquered Sam Rayburn Reservoir, but also the other 86 teams who registered for the event that launched out of beautiful Cassel Boykin County Park. Continue reading

Lake Travis High School Student Dreams His Way To a Fishing Team

Team w LogoSince Lakeway Texas resident Tyler Anderson was a young child, the sophomore at Lake Travis High School has pursued his passion for bass fishing. Last year he began dreaming of starting a fishing team at Lake Travis High School. After meeting with Mrs. Kimberly Brents, the principal at LTHS and securing Mr. Lamar Shrader as the teams high school faculty advisor, Anderson registered the club with the Student Angler Federation (SAF) and his dream became reality. The team held their initial meeting at All Star Burger in the Bee Cave Hill Country Galleria to elect officers and vote on the team bylaws. At that time Anderson was voted in as the team’s first president. All funding for the team activities are from private donations, sponsors and volunteers. Continue reading
