Over the weekend, 33 young anglers representing 9 high schools, blasted off in 18 boats to compete in California’s first high school open. The event took place on Pine Flat Lake just east of Fresno- And the weather was perfect. The lake’s big fish seemed to enjoy the pleasant day so much that they couldn’t be tempted onto a line, but the students found smaller keepers not quite so distracted. The individual team champions were Austin Thao and Brandon Yang from Clovis East High School with 7.82 lbs followed by Calem Bell and Dominic Moua of Hanford High at 7.40lbs then Brothers Tyler and Reece Wells of the Wells Academy bagging 7.08lbs. The day’s success was assured by the 13 volunteer boat captains culled from four local bass clubs.
