Cole Cloud and Ronnie Warsop put together an impressive five bass limit that weighed 17lbs 13oz to win the Georgia High School State Championship on beautiful Lake Lanier in Northeast Georgia.

Cole Cloud and Ronnie Warsop put together an impressive five bass limit that weighed 17lbs 13oz to win the Georgia High School State Championship on beautiful Lake Lanier in Northeast Georgia. The convincing win propelled the duo to the Southeast Regional in September as they will lead five teams who qualified from the event on Saturday.

The pair of juniors anchored the winning bag with the Lew’s Big Bass award, a 4lb 11oz toad that carried them to the victory and a pair of terrific Lew’s Reels for their efforts.

“We are very excited to be moving on to the regional” cited Cloud. “We used Jerk Bait early in the morning to get things started and then switched to a Carolina Rig to try and catch some bigger fish later in the day” added Warsop. “We ended up culling 4 different times today but we weren’t sure if we had enough weight to win it” added the smiling pair. “We figured we had around 15 lbs. but we really didn’t know if that was going to be good enough to win”.

Not far behind was the team of Tristan Melton and Cameron Hudson of Dawson County High School who will also advance to the regional with an equally impressive sack that tipped in at 16lbs 3oz to finish second in the 52 boat field that launched from the terrific facilities of Laurel Park in the city of Gainesville. Right behind them was the team of Mathew Jones and Eli Huggins of West Forsyth High School who had five Lake Lanier beauties that weighed 15lbs. 11oz. to finish third.

Rounding out the five qualifying teams were the 2013 defending State Champions Luke Slayton and Branson Marks also of North Forsyth who had a five fish limit the weighed 14lbs. 7oz to finish fourth.  Noah Pescitelli and Westin Sachs of Mill Creek High School also had five fish that weighed 13lbs. 5oz to grab the fifth and final qualifying spot for the fall regional.

As with all of the State Championship events all the competing anglers and SAF members in the Country are invited to fish in the High School Fishing World Finals in Russellville Arkansas in July. The TBF/FLW State Championship series will continue this week with the Ohio SAF State Championship in Columbus Ohio.

Saturday April 26^th the third annual Battle on Balboa was held on Lake Balboa. The event is sponsored by the Ouachita Bass Anglers club and  matched the Cobra Bass Club from Fountain Lake High School against the Jessieville Bass Fishing Club from Jessieville High School. Thirty four students participated bring in 72 bass and all but one of the bass were returned to Lake Balboa alive. Fourteen students from the Cobra team were selected by Angler of the Year points to compete against the fourteen students on the Jessieville team.

Ian Lacey from the Cobra club won first place individual with a 3 bass limit weighing 6 lbs 15 oz. Ian also won big bass with a bass that weighed 3 lbs 7 oz.

Second place individual was won by Curtis Priest with the Jessieville team. Curtis had a 3 bass limit that weighed 6 lbs 11 oz.

Carson Chandler from the Cobra club won third place individual with a 3 bass limit weighing 6 lbs 1 oz.

The team trophy for the second year was won by the Cobra Bass Club from Fountain Lake High School with a team weight of 51 lbs 1 oz. Additionally the Ouachita Bass Anglers gave each club a $200 check.

WIRTZ, Va. (April 29, 2014) – Zachary Francis of Abingdon High School and Matthew Rock of John Battle High School brought a five-bass limit to the scale on Sunday, April 13 weighing 14 pounds, 5 ounces to win the 2014 Virginia State High School Fishing Championship on Smith Mountain Lake. The win qualified the team to compete in a future High School Fishing conference championship.

The top five teams on Smith Mountain Lake were:

1st:            Zachary Francis, Abingdon High School, and Matthew Rock, John Battle High School, five bass, 14-5
2nd:           Nathan Wood, Patrick County High School, and Landon Siggers, Tunstall High School, five bass, 13-5
3rd:            George Washington High School – Junior Robert and Gabriel Pool, five bass, 11-15
4th:            Pulaski County High School – Triston Waddle and Jeremy Lineberry, five bass, 11-11
5th:            Franklin County High School – Jared Ward and Hunter Alice, five bass, 10-8

The 2014 Virginia State High School Fishing Championship was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 9-12. The top 10 percent from each TBF/FLW state championship field will advance to a High School Fishing conference championship along with the top 3 teams from each of the six 2014 High School Fishing Opens that coincide with the 2014 Walmart FLW Tour. The top 10 percent of each conference championship field will then advance to the High School Fishing National Championship, coinciding with the TBF National Championship and an FLW Tour stop in the spring of 2015. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.

In addition to the High School Fishing National Championship, all Student Angler Federation (SAF) nationwide automatically qualify for the world’s largest high school bass tournament, the 2014 High School Fishing World Finals.
