Washington’s Lake Chelan’s crystal clear water surrounded by foot hills and Cascade Mountains was the setting for this years High School Bass Team State Championship. For the second week in a row, the team of Brodie Trapp Selah high school Vikings and Carl Jackson of the Tumwater high school T-birds came out on top by less than a ¼ of an ounce margin to over take the second place team, of two time Junior state champion Max Hamack of the Kamiak high school Knights and Austin Yancey of the Pateros high school Billy goats, and third place team, Nathan Portch, this years Junior State Champion of the University high school Titan’s from Spokane, and teammate Austin Zetty of the Duvall high school Red Wolfs.

Carl & Brodie just came off winning the Moses Lake High School Challenge the weekend before the state championship, and maintained their focus to finish on top at Lake Chelan with 15.70 lbs and big fish of the tournament a 3.95 lbs small mouth.  Second place finishers Max and Austin culled their way up to make for an exciting weigh in with 15.52 lbs., Followed by Nathan and Austin with 13.41 lbs for third. All teams had their five fish limit.

Weather had set the lake up perfect for all teams to weigh in some nice bags of fish. The wind can be a problem this time of year, but laid down throughout the tournament. The water temperature indicated fish had moved shallow for the spawn, and all the teams took advantage of those conditions to catch and cull up for the weigh in.

The Washington State SAF/TBF wants to thank all the boat captains, local bass club member Kim Skarr of the Chelan Bass Club volunteered to captain a boat, along with Jason Portch of Spokane and Jeff Jackson of Olympia. Also to our sponsors who help make our events successful, Spokane Valley Marine, Cabela’s, Strike King lures, StCroix Rods, Big Hawg Baits, Three Rivers Marine, C&M Trophy, Jon’s N.W. Outdoors, The Prop Shop, Washington National Guard, Lake City Western Vigilantes, The Bass Federation, Lowrance, Solar Bat.
