Lake Okeechobee Open on January 17 is taking registrations Now!
The 2016 high school fishing schedule is almost finalized and registration for events opens Friday, January 1. The schedule kicks off with the Okeechobee Open in Florida on January 17. Registration for this event is already open and we encourage teams to start registering.
Go to Highschoolfishing.org; tournaments; state championship, or click the link HERE. Then, click register next to your event.
Once again, for both the State Championships and the five National Opens, the order of registration determines the take-off order for participating teams. So, sign up early and secure an early take off position.
“The opener on lake Okeechobee falls perfectly on the Martin Luther King holiday weekend so a lot of teams can take a trip to south Florida and have an extra travel day to get home,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, stated. “Add a chance to fish one of the most famed bodies of water with an early qualifying spot to the fall Conference Championship and you’ve got an exciting event.”
Anglers are reminded they must fish the State Championship in the state in which they go to school. Also, there’s no qualification necessary for the State Championships, National Opens or the most prestigious of them all, the High School Fishing World Finals; all SAF members are welcome.
The remaining National Open lakes include Lake Hartwell in February, Kentucky Lake in March, Grand Lake in April and Wheeler Lake in May. For other tournament dates and locations visit highschoolfishing.org.
The Student Angler Federation (SAF) continues to lead the high school fishing movement with the largest participation of youth anglers across the country and Canada because of the joint efforts of The Bass Federation and FLW.
