Fort Payne High School Wins Alabama State Championship/Wheeler Lake Open

Alabama Top three teamsBrody and Grant Robison from the Ft. Payne High School Fishing Team put together a limit of Wheeler Lake bass weighing 13lbs 15oz to capture the 2016 Alabama State Championship and the overall Wheeler Lake Open.  Their bag was anchored by a 4lb 1oz Wheeler Lake beauty.

Coming in second, was the Gardendale High School team of Laure Ann Foshee and Reid Conner who also had a nice limit that weighed 13lbs to take the runner-up honors. Taking the number three spot was the tandem of Kade Griffith and Will Batey of the Sylvania High School Bass Team with a limit that tipped in at 10lbs 10oz. Their bag held a 4lb 8oz toad that tied for the day’s biggest bass.  Noah Bently and Dustin Teat from Brockwood High School had the other 4lb 8oz bass.

Coming in fourth was the team of Parker Davis and Aaron Stephens for Mortimore Jordan High School. They had a limit that weighed 9lbs 9oz to outdistance the number five team of Tyler Wagnon and Delano Green from East Limestone High School with a limit weighing 9lbs 1oz to round out the top five teams.

Student Angler Federation Adds Northern Open to 2016 Schedule

PONCA CITY, Okla. (May 17, 2016) – The Bass Federation (TBF), with our “Partner in Fishing” at FLW, announce the addition of a sixth National High School Open to its no-entry fee event lineup.  The “Northern Open” will be held on Sunday, August 14 in conjunction with the Cabela’s North American Bass Circuit event on Mille Lacs Lake in Isle, Minnesota.

“We are always looking for opportunities to add more no-entry fee events to our schedule,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, said. “The chance to work with our partners at Cabela’s and the North American Bass Circuit creates a winning situation for everyone, especially the growing base of high school anglers in the North.”

Registration will be on-line at highschoolfishing.org.  Teams will check-in from 5-6pm Saturday, August 13 at the NABC trailer at Mac’s Twin Bay Resort located at 434 Vista Road, Isle, MN 56342. The rules meeting will immediately follow the check-in.

Take off will be at Mac’s Twin Bay Resort at 7am Sunday, August 14. Weigh-in will start at 3pm.

The event is open to all SAF anglers in the country.  The top three teams will advance to the Central Conference Regional Championship in Lawrenceburg, Ind., in September with hopes of moving on to the High School National Championship the following spring.

2016 Missouri High School State Championship June 25 on Truman Lake

PONCA CITY, Okla. (May 17, 2016) – The Bass Federation (TBF), with our “Partner in Fishing” at FLW, announces the 2016 Student Angler Federation (SAF) Missouri High School State Championship on Saturday, June 25 at the Bucksaw Marina near Clinton, Mo.

The state championship is a two person event for students in grades 9-12. Each team can have one member in 7th or 8th grade, if needed. All teams should pre-register online for high school events at HighSchoolFishing.org to avoid onsite late fees. Each team and their “coach,” who provides the boat they compete in, will need to check in at 5:30pm-7pm CST on June 24 at the TBF Trailer at Bucksaw Marina. A rules briefing will immediately follow. Take off is at 6am and the weigh-in will begin at 2pm .

“TBF and our partners in fishing at FLW are the only organizations to offer a state championship in every state and Canada,” TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, stated. “There’s no question our State Championship Series provides the foundation to make SAF the largest high school fishing organization in North America.”

The top 10% of each 2016 State Championship event advances to a FLW/TBF Conference Regional Championship. The top 10% from the Conference Regional events advance to the FLW/TBF High School National Championship to compete for the top team prize of a $10,000 scholarship. As an added bonus, national championship teams will compete out of new Ranger Boats provided for them, along with paid hotel accommodations and other perks. The final day weigh-in will take place on the FLW main stage in front of a live FLW Tour stop!

Pay in advance or register for an event online and pay then. There are no entry fees as long as you enter your active/paid SAF membership number at the time of registration! SAF membership includes full TBF and FLW competitor membership benefits, FLW Magazine e- Edition, online training programs and full insurance coverage for clubs, officers and student members.

In addition to State Championships, SAF National OPENs and other events held across the nation will advance the top 3 teams to their Conference Regional Championships. All SAF members automatically qualify to compete in the pinnacle of all high school events, the 2016 High School Fishing World Finals for thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes each year. The World Finals format allows anglers to test their skills against high school anglers from across the nation at a week-long family vacation event, which will be held in Florence, Alabama on Pickwick Reservoir, June 28-July 2. This no entry fee, come one, come all mega event gives every high school team a shot at the sports top prizes and honors.
