MOUNTAIN VIEW MAVERICKS WIN IDAHO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

August 16, 2016

IMG_1424Jason Felter and Anthony Mellow from Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho brought in a five bass limit weighing 9 pounds 15 ounces to win the Idaho High School Fishing State Championship on Cascade Lake.  The pair had a 3 pound 6 ounce beauty that anchored their winning sack to earn them the championship titles, trophies and a slot in the Western Conference Regional Championship on Lake Havasu in October.

IMG_1419Just inching into second was the team of Gabe Litterell and Bryson Mort from Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho with a limit weighing 9 pounds 10 ounces.

Third place went to Alex Torok and Jared Hoffman from Lake City High School with four fish that weighed 5 pounds 1 ounce.

IMG_1417A special thanks goes out to Brian Ashton and the ID TBF for running and supporting the event.

The 2016 Idaho State Championship was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12. The top 10 percent from each TBF/FLW state championship field and the top three teams from each of the seven TBF/FLW Opens will advance to a Conference Championship event.

Regional competitions begin with the Southeast Conference Championship on Lake Cumberland September 17 in Somerset, Ky.  The top 10 percent of each conference championship field will then advance to the High School Fishing National Championship, in the spring of 2017. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to the school of their choice.

The Northern Open High School Fishing Championship on Mille Lacs Lake in Isle, Minn., awarded this season’s final qualifying spots as it closed out the Student Angler Federation’s 2016 regular season.

Excitement mounted as the Prior Lake High School team of Mason Reveling and Ben Provost and the Central Catholic High School team of Bailey Bleser and Andrew Daniels brought identical five bass limits to the scales.  The teams weighed in 21 pounds 6 ounces to sit atop the standings and earn two of the final three regional qualifying berths.

Joining Prior Lake and Central Catholic high school anglers at the Central Conference Regional are Brainerd High School anglers, Caleb Nagel and Ares Soukup, who were just off pace with a 21 pound 4 ounce bag.

Special thanks to Dan Palmer and the Cabela’s North American Bass Circuit staff, as well as, the event host, Mac’s Twin Bay Resort.
