Corbett and Wood Win GICAA Northern Regional Tournament

The Jefferson Dragons Bass Fishing Team of Eli Corbett & Colby Wood took home trophies and prizes at the GICAA Northern Regional March 4 on Lake Lanier.  The pair caught a limit of bass that tipped the scales at 15.05 pounds to take titles by just over two pounds.  Corbett and Wood, along with 12 other teams from this event, will also advance to the GICAA State Championship March 18 on Lake Oconee.

Corbett and Wood also received the Big Bass Award and a large soft-sided tackle bag for catching the biggest bass of the tournament, a hefty 6.04 pound largemouth.  In addition, they earned a matching set of rods and reels.

In second place, was the team of Brooks Anderson and Will Cain of the Mount Bethel Christian Academy Eagles.  They finished with 12.15 pounds.  They also received the GICAA School Award for the event.

Rounding out the top three, were Tyler Garrett & Maddux Walters from Creekview High School with a limit weighing 11.08 pounds.

 

 

There were prizes and tackle for the top seven teams and the top 12 teams qualified to advance.  Most anglers caught their fish on Shaky Heads in 5-12 feet of water and most teams were fishing around docks and submerged brush around the docks.  Other teams reportedly caught their fish on flukes, crankbaits, spinnerbaits and worms.

Going forward, the SAF program will operate on a school calendar with the National Championship being held in the summer in conjunction with the High School Fishing World Finals.

All participants must be Student Angler Federation (SAF) members to participate. SAF membership includes both TBF and FLW membership plus a digital subscription to FLW Bass Fishing magazine, online training courses and more.

SAF members never pay an entry fee to participate in TBF or FLW High School Fishing tournaments and all clubs are covered by SAF insurance, which means there is no added expense for schools with sanctioned High School Fishing clubs.

Chisholm and DePuy Win Florida High School Fishing State Championship

 

Osceola anglers, Bailey Chisholm and Cole DePuy, caught 17.05 pounds to top the field on Sunday on the St.John River in Putnam County, Fl.  Teams traveled from across the state to battle it out for the championship titles and the five national qualifying spots.

Most anglers were fishing in 3-6 foot of water while others were sight fishing.  The popular baits included Senkos, trick worms, chatterbaits and jerkbaits.  In total, there were 21 limits weighed for a total of 323.06 pounds.

 

 

Finishing in second place with 15.13 pounds was the Brahmans team of Kaitlyn Williams and David Daniel.  Fort Meade Fighting Miners anglers Tyler Bazemore and Shane Schmucker took third with 15.09 pounds.

Rounding out the top five qualifiers to advance to the High School National Championship were the teams of James Brooks and Matthew Sorrells with 15.03 pounds and Fisher Omans and Steven Steinard with 14.15 pounds.

The Lew’s Big Bass of the event went to Coy and Madison Givens with an 8.14 pound giant.  Both anglers received new Lew’s reels for their huge catch. Next week, anglers set out to qualify through the GICAA Regional events on Lake Sinclair and Lake Lanier, as well as, the FLW/TBF South Carolina OPEN on Lake Murray.
