Isle, Minn. – July 11, 2022 – 28 teams participated in the Minnesota State High School Fishing Championship with the hopes of advancing to the 2023 National Championship in La Crosse, WI. Anticipation was high until late rules changes forced the event organizers to change the length limit of the fish allowed to weigh.
Originally teams were going to be allowed to weigh their 5 best fish over 14 inches, but due to regulation changes on Mille Lacs, teams were pinched into a 12-17” size range of keepable bass. This threw the best laid plans out the window.
Perseverance was key though for the team of Aiden Holm and Reid McAlla (Becker High School) as they were the only team to secure 5 legal fish to weigh-in a tournament winning bag of 9lbs. 15 oz. The future Juniors will have the opportunity to fish for hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships next June.
Along Aiden and Reid the 3rd place team of Kolbe Sahr and Eion Quiel (Aitkin High School) will be representing Minnesota in the National Championship in La Crosse.
