Fry and Geiss win on the Madison Chain of Lakes for the Wisconsin High School Fishing State Championship

Madison, Wisc. – July 11, 2022 – A small but competitive group of teams gathered on the shore of Lake Waubesa, one of the lakes that makes up the very fishy waters of the Madison Chain of Lakes for the 2022 Wisconsin High School Fishing State Championship. Teams were comprised of anglers from across the state looking to secure a spot in the 2023 High School Fishing National Championship to take place in La Crosse, WI next June.

A beautiful day met the 16 anglers though the afternoon breeze made for a tougher bite as the day went on. Half the teams found a way to drop the tournament limit of 5 fish in the basket but only one could come out the state champion.

The team of Hayden Fry and Griffin Geiss (Brookfield East High School) locked into a bite earlier in the week and kept up with it to lock in the win weighing 12lbs 15ozs. Exactly one pound over the second-place team of Cameron Gates and Nick Schaefer (Oregon High School).

Hayden and Griffin will now have the opportunity to fish in the National Championship in their home-state and take home thousands in scholarship money to further their education and perhaps their competitive fishing future.
