MUHLENBERG COUNTY WINS KHSAA BASS FISHING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON KENTUCKY LAKE

GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. (April 28, 2014) – The Muhlenberg County High School team of Cameron Brooks and Chase Geary brought a five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing 17 pounds, 15 ounces to win the 2014 Kentucky High School Athletic Association Bass Fishing State Championship on Kentucky Lake. The duo’s two-day total of 10 bass weighing 33-6 gave them a narrow 1-pound, 3-ounce winning margin over the second-place team of Mason Shelton and Drake Oliver of Trigg County High School.

The 10 teams ended competition in:

1st:             Muhlenberg County High School – Cameron Brooks and Chase Geary, 10 bass, 33-6

2nd:            Trigg County High School – Mason Shelton and Drake Oliver, 10 bass, 32-3

3rd:                        Calloway County High School – Nathan Camp and Brandon Falwell, 10 bass, 30-7

4th:             Muhlenberg County High School – Jacob Bowles and Hunter Hampton, 10 bass, 28-14

5th:             Calloway County High School – Jared Phillips and Nick Proctor, 10 bass, 28-6

6th:             North Laurel High School – Gabe Blair and Lane Williams, nine bass, 27-7

7th:             Trigg County High School – Douglas Colson and Zack Colbert, 10 bass, 27-1

8th:             Corbin High School – Morgan Boggs and Tanner Jordan, 10 bass, 23-15

9th:             Franklin County High School – Cameron Thompson and Jacob Moore, seven bass, 21-7

10th:           Washington County High School – Michael Sandusky and Michael Shelton, eight bass, 20-9

Lane Williams from North Laurel High School won the Big Bass Award on Friday with a bass weighing 5 pounds, 15 ounces. Wes Baker from South Laurel High School was named the winner of the National Guard Best and Brightest Award. Trent Arrowood from Johnson Central High School was chosen for the Forcht Bank Uncommon Excellence Award.

The 2014 KHSAA Bass Fishing State Championship took place April 25-26 on Kentucky Lake in Gilbertsville, Ky. The second-annual event featured 46 teams that advanced from four regional championships held across the state. A total of 185 teams competed in regionals this season, an increase of 76 percent over the sport’s inaugural 2012-2013 campaign.
