Preston Franke and Andrew Zeigler bring Havoc on Lake Austin with a 5 fish limit weighing 20.10 including a 7.97 pound “kicker” bass and win the “Let There be Havoc” on Lake Austin April 5th
Every fisherman/woman has dreams of catching a double digit bass, and landing a personal best during a tournament. It is something that you remember for a lifetime.
Bringing the second event of the FAN High School Series to Lake Austin in April delivered both experiences to some very happy anglers.
Eighty-eight anglers with their captains launched their boats into the 1600 acre lake on the Colorado River system in the heart of Austin. You could see the excitement of the high school anglers that traveled from as far away as Sugar Land from the South, and Era TX. to the north.
We prayed as the cool cloudy day displayed its early morning light, The National Anthem played, and then the anglers were off to test their strategies and make memories.
The clouds stayed with us throughout the day. However, that did not keep the parents and fans from the Austin 360 Bridge Park to root on their high school and favorite anglers.
With the crowd cheering, the anglers made their way to the stage to share their catches with the fans and supporters and to see how they would compare to the other competitors.
Setting a new FAN High School Fishing Series weight record with, 20.10 pounds was the FAN High School Bass Team of Preston Franke and Andrew Zeigler, including a 7.97 pound “kicker fish” . They fished the mid lake area not traveling far from the launch area, working docs with TX rigged craws, and the A-Rigged swim baits. Preston and Andrew’s win included each an Abu Garcia ProMax casting reel paired up to a Abu Garcia Varitas 7’ Medium Heavy action rod, and an impressive first place trophy. This win places them in the lead for Anglers of the Year race.
Captain Adam Artnak won the Captain award of a $100 gift card.
Weston Minzenmayer and Nathan Muilman also fishing with the FAN HS Bass Team take second place with 19.54 pounds and second big bass of the day weighing 9.08 pounds. Weston told us he caught his 9.08 pound bass in shallow water in a creek wash on a Texas rigged Berkley Chiggar Craw. They each took home a ProMax Rod and Reel Combo and a nice big trophy. Their Captain was Matt Kevil
Coming in a close third place spot was Chase Hux and Matt Nicholas from New Braunfels Christian Academy with 19.33. Their winning pattern was flipping shallow trees early and ledges later in the day. They each won a large Berkley Power Bait soft tackle system and trophies. Their Captain was Buck Hux.
Taking the Kistler Big Bass Award with a 10.23 pound largemouth and personal best was Dalton Denson with the FAN HS Bass Team. Dalton’s bass earned him a Kistler Pro Series fishing rod. Dalton was fishing with Joey Russell and they finished in 5th place overall- They were captained by Dalton’s dad, David Denson.

Captain Incentives and Awards
Captains are essential to the success of our High School Fishing program and we are honored to be able to recognize them with some great sponsor products and incentives.
Winning the Academy Sports and Outdoors Captain Drawing $100 gift card was Brian Mater. Brian is a prime example of what FAN HS Fishing Boat Captains are all about- He is a non-family captain, meaning he has no children in the tournament and volunteers his time because he loves the sport and want to help kids get involved. THANK YOU BRIAN
Winning the SuperNova Captain Drawing for a SuperNova Nav Kit – $89.00 Value was Mark Lackey – Congratulations Mark. We appreciate you….
There was no winner for the Marine Outlet Captain incentive this time
