The 2012 High School Fishing World Finals promises to be another great event as more teams from across the country will be making their way to Russellville, Arkansas for the pinnacle event in high school fishing. The event will be streamed LIVE on the internet at highschoolfishing.org so everyone back home can watch, and it will be taped for television broadcast.
There are a few bullets points we want to highlight about this year’s events. Listed below are some of the changes that will help push the event to new heights!
-
NEW for 2012! Check out rule 24 on Boat Captains/Coaches – in part it reads :
To qualify as a boat captain/ coach, the adult accompanying a team must be at least 19 years old and from the same state as the students comprising the team, or an immediate family member (mother, father, brother, sister or grandparent), or a TBF volunteer boat captain provided by tournament officials.

There is a 2.0 GPA requirement for the event. If you’ve had an issue or have let your grades slip below a 2.0 GPA, but still want to fish the event there’s a way to do so. But, it is NOT easy; it will require some detailed homework over the summer. You will be required to bring your grades up before you can claim a prize or fish another SAF event. Contact Mark Gintert at mark@bassfederation.com for more details.

We will once again offer our industry first, “Angler Bonus Testing” under our certified Student Angler program, which can add bonus ounces to the weights by taking a simple online quiz. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for you and your partner to add weight to your catch and use your education to help you win the event! Go to this link to take the test. https://www.highschoolfishing.org/online-quiz/

NEW for 2012! There will be a new prize awarded this year for anyone who goes online and completes the Faculty of Fishing 11 free Advantage Angler courses and the unit test at the end. This is a benefit program for all active TBF/SAF members. All of those who pass this test will be entered into a drawing for a $200 Cabela’s gift card as a reward for completing this extra training. You must have this complete by July 13th to be eligible. Login with your membership number at http://store.bassfederation.com. There is a link to the Faculty of Fishing courses after you login.

Boat Captain’s/Coaches do not get to fish during the official practice days or tournament days. As a way to express our gratitude and give them a fishing “fix” mid week, there will be a Tuesday evening Boat Captain’s/Coaches Tournament on July 17th out of Old Post Park on Pool #9 of the Arkansas River. Boat captains and Student Anglers compete together as a three person team. Also, if you have a younger sibling who would like to fish with the boat captain we would love to have them as there is no grade level requirement in this event. Prizes like gas and Cabela’s cards will be awarded!
-
We will again hold a Consolation Round Tournament on Saturday morning for those teams who don’t make the final cut. This is a great, fun event with some BIG prizes; your boat captain can also participate! We will have a few exciting perks for the contestants this year, including the “wildest fishing hat” contest…..plan to bring a “wild” fishing hat for your boat captain on Saturday’s consolation round tournament!
