When Morgan Fitzgerald and Kaden Sites originally found their way to Youth Director Sam Heckman’s Colorado Youth Program they were basically trout fisherman only. Now they can officially call themselves “State High School Bass Fishing Champions” as they brought in a five fish limit that weighed in at 10.75 lbs. to win the Colorado State Championship Sunday on Pueblo Reservoir.
Finishing second, also with a five bass limit, were the team of Parker Strain and Ryan Bass from Front Range High School who had 9.25 pounds to claim the runner up spot just ahead of the duo of Cooper Brown and Connor Henderson of Pueblo West High School who also brought in a five fish sack that weighed 8.65 lbs. to claim the third position.
In addition to winning bragging rights for the State of Colorado for one year, Fitzgerald and Sites will also represent the State at the Western Conference Regional Championship at Clear Lake in California in October with their sites set up qualifying for the TBF/FLW High School National Championship.
