The Maryville Middle Bass Club is starting its third year with 48 members of The Bass Federation’s Student Angler Federation. Our school is made up of 7th and 8th graders and about 5% of our student body is in the bass club. Recently, our club held its fall fishing event on Fort Loudoun Lake near Knoxville, Tennessee. We had 42 student anglers fish in pairs along with 21 boat volunteers.
Of the 21 boaters, we had several pro anglers which included B.A.S.S. pro Ott DeFoe ( 2011 Rookie of the Year ) , FLW pro Brandon Coulter , LBAA pros: Heather Broom, Teri Cindric, and Jenny Nevans.
It was a very successful event. Most of our student anglers were able to catch some type of fish. Trophies were given out in the bass division for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and lunker fish. We also gave out trophies for the most fish caught by a team. There are 6 female student anglers in our club this year and I am proud to say one of them took 3rd place and combined with another female student to catch the most fish with boat volunteer LBAA pro angler Heather Broom.
We are very proud of the success of our club since its 2009 start. We continue to meet with our student anglers once a month after school to provide guest speakers in the bass fishing industry. The students also have the opportunity to fish several events during the school year. We would like to thank Roger and Greg Newman and all the members of the Little River Bassmasters for their continued support.
