The all-freshman team of Trey Schroeder and Grant Nisbet but together a five fish limit that weighed 14lbs. 12oz to win the 2015 Missouri SAF State Championship on Lake of the Ozarks.
The big bag was anchored by a 5lb 7oz toad that also helped the pair claim the Lew’s Big Bass award for the event. The win also gave the duo a qualifying berth in the Southern Conference Regional Championship in Pine Bluff Arkansas in October with a chance to qualify for next year’s High School National Championship.
Following right behind them by the narrowest of margins was the team of Ren Witte and Luke Ruprecht from Eureka High School who also brought in five fish to the Robins Resort weigh-in facility. The pair did have one deceased fish that lowered their total weight to 14lbs 12oz to finish a close second.
Rounding out the top three teams were the pair of Jacob Sauer and Bruno Tesoro from Affton High School. They also had a limit of Ozark beauties that tipped the scales at 13lbs 10oz to finish third.
“We caught fish pretty consistently all day” Stated Grant Nisbet. Without a doubt the key to us winning was Grant catching that one big fish” added Schroeder. “We all went a little crazy in the boat when we got that one in added the smiling freshman!
Special thanks go out to Luke Kennworthy of Robins Resort who provided their facility for the weekend’s events as well as Dave and Carol Lindner of the Missouri TBF who also assisted with the weigh in festivities.
