Abigail Montgomery and John Gray led Lakeside High School to the Alabama SAF State Championship and Eufaula Open win at Lake Point Marina last week. The pair toppled a 57 boat field that had anglers from five different states competing for the rights to advance on to the Southeastern Conference Regional at Lake Lanier Georgia in September. The smiling pair put together a nice five bass limit that weighed 11lbs 3oz to secure the win.
Finishing second, just four ounces behind, was the team of Laura Ann Foshee and DJ Barber who also had a five fish sack that weighed 10lbs 15 oz. to nail down the runner up spot.
Also securing a qualifying spot was the team of Ethan Greene and Cody Lynn who had a five fish bag that weighed 10lb 13 oz to finish third and narrowly edge out the fourth and final qualifying spot that was captured by Zeke Gossett and Ryan Shields. This duo is seeking to claim another trip to the TBF National Championship where they finished fifth a few short weeks ago at Grand Lake Oklahoma.
The event served as the State Championship for the Students from Alabama and also an Open event for any teams across the country to attend as part of the TBF/FLW High School Championship series. To advance on the open side a team from any location had to finish in the top three overall while the top 10% of the Alabama Field automatically advanced as well.
Special thanks goes out to the FLW Staff that was led by long time Tournament Director Bill Taylor for hosting the event and Lake Point Resort Marina for being such a gracious host.
