26 Kaufman Fishing Team Members Take on a Tough Cedar Creek

Saturday, December 8^th was the first tournament for the 2012-13 season for the Kaufman High School Fishing Team. Kaufman doubled its largest number competing in a tournament with over 26 entered. Steve Holland, who is the coach of the team said; “After looking at the large number of new recruits we decided to have an individual tournament pitting each member against each other. I decided not to have any other school present so I could really concentrate on just the Kaufman Team and see where each of the new members stacked up with our more experienced crew. When wind at Cedar Creek doesn’t blow the bass bite gets stingy. I was surprised of the few bass weighed, but I would have to rate the experience that each member received a 10 plus due to the fact the team had to bear down and concentrate for each single fish. This only makes you better competing in bass tournaments.”

Once again some of the area’s top professional bass anglers were present acting as boat captains for the Kaufman Team. This included Cheryl Bowden and Judy Skibinski of the Lady Bass Anglers Assoc., Tim Wilcoxson and Scott Dean. Cheryl, who captained Kaufman’s first Lady Lions of Stevie Stoulsky and Shadie Martinez, said “Both fished hard and concentrated on flipping boat docks. The fish did not cooperate so bites were few and far between”.  Both girls boated fish with Shadies 3.46 good enough for 5^th place and 3^rd largest of the big bass weighed.

Trevor Thompson won the tournament with a three fish limit totaling 8.40. Trevor also had the largest bass of contest weighing 4.14 pounds. Marshall White placed second with two fish of 5.16. Third was Lane Allen who weighed in two fish for 4.70. Rylie Law’s 4.44 was good enough for fourth and Shadie Martinez rounded out the top five with her 3.46.

The Kaufman High School Fishing Team wants to thank the boat captain’s who volunteered their time and fishing knowledge to help make this tournament a great success.
