Tension is building now that our pre-tournament meeting is over and the largest crowd ever assembled of high school fishing SAF members gets ready to compete in the 2012 High School Fishing World Finals. The record setting crowd consisted of 120 teams from 21 different states all across the country. Counting anglers families and boat captain’s Fat Daddy’s Barbecue served over 700 people attending the registration banquet. The “dock talk” from some of the teams says that the competition will be very close with the weather being extremely hot. One team also mentioned the fact that water levels have dropped close to a foot, water levels will play a significant factor into the competition this week.
We did have a couple things we would like to point out. We have to give the lead (for now anyway) of “most spirited team” to the “blue man group” from Ohio seen here. They are excited about the event and what all high school fishing is allowing them to do. A couple of our furthest traveling teams come from the states of Massachusetts and Minnesota.
The teams this week will be competing for tens of thousands of scholarship dollars and prizes that will be very valuable to them as they continue their education. These prizes include up to $20,000 in scholarship money, iPads, and laptops. We are also doing a “tackle stash dash” and the clues can be found on our SAF Facebook page.
