Last Saturday, April 7th The Dover Youth Bass Fishing’s Tournament Series presented by Bassmafiatackle.com was held on Lake Dardanelle. We had 66 anglers participate and were one of the many activities out at Lake Dardanelle State Park. We paid special tribute to our Veterans this Easter weekend by holding our tournament in cooperation with the wounded Veterans tournament held at the lake Saturday. Team mentor Ray Scheide said “ I feel a deep sense of gratitude toward all of our veterans, especially in these times where we are reminded frequently the high price that some of them pay so that we can enjoy these simple freedoms like tournament bass fishing. Words cannot express our appreciation and I would hope that my personal feelings about them can flow to our youths to help them appreciate their opportunities also!”
The youth team of Cody Chessher and Kendall Goates with boat captain Rex Rose were victorious with a 5 bass limit weighing over 16lbs. In second place was the team of Corey and Mikayla Scheide with boat captain Ray Scheide with 15.5 lbs. They caught their fish on buzzbaits and swimjigs in the lower half of the lake. Corey also landed the big bass of the day with a 5.5lb brute. Third place went to Shawn Price and Jason Kendrick with Boat captain Shawn Bates with 15.1 lbs. They caught the majority of their fish on jigs flipped and casted into bedding areas.
This tournament also concluded our Angler of the year race for the fiscal school year of 2011/2012.
Over all teams had great success and the Angler of the Year race was closer than ever. The Team of Austin Rhinehart , Dakota Chenowith came out on top by a mere 4 points to claim the Angler of the year title. Their run included 4 top tens that included 2 wins and also weighed in a DYFC record weight of over 25lbs on Lake Dardanelle this spring. These Teams have Qualified for the First ever “DYFC Classic” presented by BassMafiaTackle.com that will be held this month. The venue will be 6 teams competing head to head on a different Lake that we have never fished a tournament on! We will crown the 2012 Classic winners prior to our 3 Majors starting next month.
