COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 9, 2012) – FLW, in conjunction with The Bass Federation (TBF), has announced High School Fishing is headed to Lake Murray on April 15 for the High School Fishing National Championship. Five winning teams from each of the five High School Fishing Conference Championships will be competing in the National Championship for a $10,000 scholarship ($5,000 to each team member).
Anglers will take off from Park Site No. #8 (North) located at 2101 North Lake Drive in Columbia, S.C., at 7:15 a.m. Sunday. Weigh-in will be held at Carolina Stadium beginning at 4:30 p.m., pending the end of the USC baseball game. Takeoff and weigh-in are free and open to the public.
High School anglers competing in the Lake Murray tournament, which is hosted by the University of South Carolina and Capital City/Lake Murray Country, include:
Team 1 – Junior Roberts, Danville, Va., George Washington High, and Tanner Blanks, South Boston, Va., Halifax County High School
Team 2 – Dalton Anderson and Dawson Lenz, both of Peachtree City, Ga., McIntosh High School
Team 3 – Kyler Chelminiak, Franklin, Wis., Whitnall High School, and Nicholas Peterson, Hazelhurst, Wis., Lakeland High School
Team 4 – Drew Bailey, North Platte, Neb., North Platte High School, and Adam Diehl, Brady, Neb., Brady Public School
Team 5 – Jacob Wall, Jacksonville, Ore., St. Mary’s High School, and Colby Pearson, Central Point, Ore., Crater High School
Each FLW/TBF Federation High School Fishing team competes in their state championship event in one of five conferences – Central, Northern, Southern, Southeastern and Western. The top team from each state championship will qualify for one of five conference championships. The winning team from each conference championship will advance to the national championship, held in conjunction with the National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship.
High School Fishing is free to enter and FLW provides boats and drivers for each competing team along with travel allowances at the Conference and National Championship tournaments. High School Fishing Tournaments are open to all ninth, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, including home-schooled students, that are members of the Student Angler Federation.
