2026 High School Fishing World Finals and National Championship Day One Underway
Bluebird skies and calm waters welcomed high school anglers from across the US and Canada as day one signaled the battle for the championship titles. The field consists of 37 teams representing the US and 1 team from Ontario. Teams as far west as Hawaii, north to Minnesota, east to Maine, south to Texas, and everywhere in between traveled to Cumberland shores to vie for the most prestigious titles in high school fishing.
Teams launched from the Lake Cumberland Marina state dock at 6 am CST. From there, anglers were on the hunt for a three-bass limit until their designated check-in times. Lake Cumberland was stingy with these champion anglers; several struggled but kept grinding it out. Many teams voiced plans to change up their attacks on day two. One pair was able to nail three solid bass to lead the pack.
The Lakeland Christian Vikings team of Bobby Lane III and Bryden Tyler is in the top spot after day one. Lane and Tyler had a limit of bass totalling 12 pounds 2 ounces. The Florida anglers were close-lipped about their process, not wanting to reveal any secrets this early on.
“I can’t lie to you up here,” Lane said. “Just one bite at a time, hook, line, and sinker.”
The team set the bar high early in the weigh-in, as they were among the first 20 teams to step on the scales. Hundreds of teams later, and no one could top this duo. “First, we are going to thank the Lord above because none of this would be possible without him,” Lane continued. “Next, we are going to thank both our parents because they’ve done so much for us to be up here. We also want to thank all our sponsors and everyone who has helped us along the way.”
Tyler echoed his partner’s thanks. Today, we’ll see if the front-runners can hold their lead on a tough Lake Cumberland. The Russell County Jaycees Fairgrounds will host weigh-ins starting at 1:30 pm. Anglers will walk across the tournament stage for all spectators to see.
